After finishing her residency program in 1999 in Eau Claire WI, my Wife and I built our home on Tamarack Lake (yes in Linwood Township for those who don't know) as it was a beautiful spot and close to the Wyoming Hospital and the Forest Lake Clinic for my wife's employment.
Fast forward many years and our oldest daughter has finished her Engineering Degree at the University of Minnesota Duluth (met my wife there and is therefore our alma mater) and has been accepted at UW Madison's Chem Bio Engineering Graduate program with Professorship being her goal. I came to Duluth from South Minneapolis, my wife from Sommerset WI/ Stillwater MN.
Our oldest Son was an aluminum welder for Premier Marine out of High School until their lattest layoffs this spring in Big Lake MN and is now enrolling at Anoka Hennepin to obtain his welding certificate.
Our youngest still attends Forest Lake High School and plans on obtaining his commercial pilots license, probably in Grand Forks ND, after graduation.
I have been a computer guru since my second year of college. Starting in the PC labs at UMD by creating my own Lab Admin position. In the evenings I would moonlight at the professors homes helping them get setup or fix issues and usually enjoying a home cooked meal which were way better than what I would cook for myself on a college budget!
I have since worked in IT for Metro State University, the Araz Group, Omne Clinic, Fertilizer Equipment Inc., MG Waldbaum, Southwest Data Systems, Pivotal Systems and started my own computer consulting company called Micro Consulting as an April Fools joke to my wife in 2001. In 2022 I started distancing myself from Micro Consulting and transitioned to IT Contract Laborer (including stints at Running Aces and Minco) as small businesses have moved to the cloud thereby greatly reducing onsite IT needs.
In 2018 after selling Lakes Apparel (in Forest Lake) Mrs. Livermore told me I should get involved with teaching as the district really needed people to fill in for staff and she knew my schedule was more flexible than most.
Because of her - between computer gig's - I have found a love for substitute teaching at area schools (Forest Lake and Isanti), even during the pandemic when the kids where still in the classroom. Our community really needs substitute teachers and I highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys kids, has patience that knows no bounds (Hand the troublemakers off to the principal!), has any Bachelor Degree and can pass a couple of back ground checks (state & district). No teaching experience required but raising kids and my Scouting experience has been very helpful!
I served on the Sunrise River Watershed Management Organization (SRWMO) board February 2011 till November 2021. After about 5 years as Linwood's representative I came back from a skiing vacation and found myself SRWMO's new Chair as Mr. Tim Peterson (past Linwood Township Supervisor) nominated me in absentee.
Serving Linwood on the SRWMO has introduced me to the world of Micro Biology and Chemistry hands on Vs. Science classes. I have learned a lot. The SRWMO board, along with the amazing help of ACD, have made a water quality difference in Linwood Township and those downstream of us. Martin Lake is a shining example as I remember water skiing there in 2001 remarking that it was hard to see my water skis amongst the greenery.
Very excited to see Martin Lake improving from a solid F- grade to low to mid C grade as announced in 2022. Between removing literally a ton of carp and putting up barriers to keep them from breeding upstream, a lot of money has been spent on Martin Lake, but all of us have benefited from these projects and others (rain gardens, sediment ponds, etc.) that the SRWMO has been very instrumental in designing and installing throughout our communities (Ham Lake, East Bethel, Columbus and Linwood). See www.srwmo.org
I resigned in 2022 as I believe in Term Limits and it was time to let others serve as well.
I have been in Scouting since my oldest son joined Pack 9487 at St. Peters Church in Forest Lake. My youngest joined a few years later and I became his Lion's Den Leader. I eventually led the pack as Cub Master, Joined Troop 9487 as Assistant Scout Master and then followed the Lametti's to Linwood Troop 9435 where I have been an Assistant Scoutmaster since 2017.
I fully support Scouting and am constantly encouraging youth to join.
Through industry connections, I have made the Metallurgy Partnership Event possible at the Northern Star Fall Camporee's with Rice Industries and UW Stout where Scouts are able to make their own aluminum castings using the Vanishing Foam technique setup by UW Staff.
Even though my sons are no longer in Scouting I am still involved at the District and hold my Assistant Scout Master Rank at Linwood Troop 435. I enjoy participating in Board of Reviews and working at the Linwood Family Fun Day where lots of adults are needed. https://www.troopwebhost.org/Troop435Linwood/
In high school and college I enjoyed playing the Tuba, my wife the Clarinet. All three of our kids are, or have been, involved in music in our schools since the 6th grade.
FLAMB are parents of Forest Lake students just like you. We support the teachers, students and music departments throughout the district.
Our family enjoys good rapport with the High School Music department so it was only natural that I step up and volunteer for the Treasurer Position.
My 3 year term as treasure finished this past may (2024) www.flmusicboosters.org
Me as SRWMO Chair (Carp Dignitary) helping Carp Solutions after a good catch on Martin Lake. Yes the water shoes had to be washed also :)
My trailer at Martin Lake Public Access taking the place of Carp Solutions Broken down Truck so that the catch could be transported (2,500) carp caught that day. Huge thanks to Pinehaven and The Linwood Wolf Center for carp disposal and Carp Solutions for making the catch!
ACD/SRWMO Botche Ball crew at Linwood Lake Fund Raiser. Matt Larson (Top Left), Tim Harrington (Top Right), Jamie Shurbon ACD (Bottom Left), Dan (Bab's) Babineau (Bottom Right).
My Son Derek and I on a friends boat in the Puget Sound WA.
